I built this bike, based on a late 1970s Raleigh Bomber frame, quite a few months ago. I changed the cottered crank axle to a non-cottered crank axle to fit a modern crank & chain-set. Due to the unusually wide width of the bottom brackets on Raleigh Bombers I had to convert an axle with short stops by adding spacers. No matter how tight I secured the lock-ring it always worked its way loose. I have now submitted to reason and gone back to a cottered axle with old school cranks...
